About Russell Sage College

Russell Sage College, more often referred to as simply Russell Sage or RSC, is a women's college located in Troy, which is a city located in New York state, serving as the county seat of Rensselaer County, housing over 49 000 people, within its limits, as estimated during the 2000 census.


RSC was established in 1916, being founded by Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage, a suffragist, as a `school of practical arts`, and it is one of the three colleges that make up The Sage Colleges. It offers its students an education, `based on a solid foundation of liberal arts and sciences, while remaining competitive in today's world.`


Athletics

Russell Sage's athletic teams are known as the Gators and they compete in NCAA's Division III in basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, softball, and lacrosse. Their distinctive colors are green and white.


Notable Alumni

Among RSC's noteworthy alumni, there are also: Mireya Robles - writer and literary critic, Eliza Kellas - renowned female educator and co-founder of Russell Sage, Joan Ganz Cooney - businesswoman and television producer, and Eleanor Roosevelt - First Lady (recipient of the first honorary degree from RSC).
